Change coming to the High street?

What happens to the high street when I can buy those same things online and get it delivered the same day for the same price or less?

Consider that Amazon are growing at 30% a year and adding a further 3 new fulfilment warehouses to the UK in 2011. How many will it be in 2012? 5? 10?

Its seams pretty inevitable that Amazon will get to the point when they have enough fulfilment warehouses to cover same day deliveries to most areas of the UK right?

Now I don’t know about you but I can easily imagine seeing Amazon vehicles in every major town and city making there multiple daily deliveries. And when I can buy the things I dont like buying but need to buy, and buy them for the same price or less and have them delivered that same day… that’s going to change the way I shop.

And much like the years surrounding the world wars the high street wont be filled with shops that sell rubbish and have poor customer service but instead will be filled with people that are focused on not only your overall experience but also on your relationship to that company and that store.

It pretty clear that most people and businesses are just getting comfortable with the internet’s lively injection into our lives over the past 10 years but I think the next 10 years might just be the most exciting. When the internet and its diverse array of offerings is available both in one click (mobile payments) and can be delivered the same day… that’s going to make huge ripples to the way a lot of people shop.
